About Me

"Have no fear of perfection; you'll never reach it" - Salvador Dali

Biography:

Despite a varied background of teaching, freelance magazine writing and design, mural and furniture painting and children's wear design, I consider myself mainly self-taught in the medium in which I now prefer to work: acrylics on canvas.

The magazines I have contributed to include: Sewing World, Classic Stitches, Popular Crafts, Simply Crafts and Patchwork & Quilting.

My teaching career includes teaching at two Cheshire colleges and a young offenders’ institute. I have taught Art, Decorative Painting, Textiles and various crafts as well as Literacy and Numeracy.

I live in a small village in Cheshire with my partner and youngest child. There are four lovely people on this planet who call me Mum, and two who know me as Grandma.

When I'm not painting, I love beachcombing, walking, gardening and reading. I try hard to fit exercise into my busy days, but usually fail miserably! My grandchildren descend on me on a regular basis and turn my house upside down, which always brings me back to reality.

About my Art

I like to paint in bright, bold colours and at the moment most of my work is in acrylics. My background is in textiles, and some of the texture in my work reflects this.

I’m (unsurprisingly) inspired by things I love: the beach, the sea, the sky, beach huts, nature and people. My paintings have been described as "happy art" as they makes people smile.

I am attracted to paintings depicting people. I love Beryl Cook's paintings because they tell a story and are so full of humour.

I welcome feedback, so please contact me via the contact page if you have anything at all to say. And if you'd like to buy anything, or just want more information, please do get in touch - or feel free to just click the Buy Now button on the painting(s) of your choice.
